A Conversation with Doula and Childbirth Educator, Stephanie King
By Dr. Marin Cole - Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist at Empower Your Pelvis, in Kansas City, Missouri (Lee Summit, MO and Overland Park, KS)
In our latest podcast episode on Empower Your Pelvis, we had the pleasure of interviewing Stephanie King, a childbirth educator and doula, host of the popular podcast Pregnancy and Birth Made Easy, and creator of the comprehensive birth course, My Essential Birth. I discovered her podcast around week 10 of my pregnancy, and it truly transformed my experience and preparation for childbirth. It was such an honor to have her on our podcast!
Key Takeaways from Our Interview with Stephanie King
Stephanie’s insights are invaluable, but for the full experience, we encourage you to check out the complete episode on our Empower Your Pelvis podcast! Here are a few key highlights:
1. You Are Strong, and You Have Choices!
Stephanie’s biggest piece of advice for expecting moms resonated deeply with us as pelvic floor physical therapists: “You are strong, and you have choices!” This message is especially empowering for first-time moms, who often don’t realize just how capable their bodies are. Stephanie encourages moms-to-be to advocate for themselves, ask their providers questions, and trust their intuition throughout the pregnancy and delivery process.
2. Movements to Create Space for Your Baby
During the interview, Stephanie shared three essential movements that she recommends to her clients to help create space in the abdomen and pelvis. These exercises align closely with the techniques we use with our pregnant patients at Empower Your Pelvis.
Forward Inversion: Begin in a kneeling position on a couch or bed, and gently lean forward from your hips.
Pelvic Tilts: These can be done in a sitting, standing, or tabletop position. Rock your pelvis forward and back, focusing on tucking and untucking your tailbone.
Deep Squat: This is a stretch where you gradually build your tolerance for maintaining a squat position with your heels flat. You can start by squatting onto a stool or holding a door handle for upper body support.
Stay Tuned for More!
We absolutely loved getting to know Stephanie, not just as a childbirth educator and doula, but also as a mother. Her passion for empowering women during pregnancy is truly inspiring. Keep an eye out for our podcast episode with Stephanie, and later this summer, we’ll be joining her on Pregnancy and Birth Made Easy as well!
Stay connected and empowered, and don’t miss these upcoming episodes!
