Pregnancy Journal: 26 Weeks – Embracing Changes and Finding Comfort

#26weekspregnant

At 26 weeks pregnant, I’m feeling great, and baby boy is now the size of a head of lettuce! This week, I received my Bao Bai Maternity Belly Sport Band (use promo code “empoweryourpelvis” for 15% off), and let me tell you—I’m in LOVE! I've been using it during my morning walks, and it’s been a game-changer. The belly band relieves enough pressure in my abdomen to reduce swelling in my labia, which is a huge relief. While I still wear my V2 support belt and compression hose throughout the day to improve blood flow, for walking and workouts, the belly band alone is perfect.

Finding Comfort in Alternatives

A big moment this week was taking my Glucose Test—and I learned something important that I had to share with you! Did you know you have options for how you can take in the required 50-100 grams of sugar (depending on your doctor) for the test? You don’t have to rely on the typical orange Glucola drink. There are alternatives, and it's completely worth asking your doctor about!

Ask for alternatives!

Ask for alternatives!

As someone who limits sugar intake to less than 40 grams a day, I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of drinking something sugary. I’d rather indulge in a delicious meal or dessert than a drink packed with ingredients I avoid. So, I called my doctor’s office and asked for a substitute. To my relief, they said yes! My alternative included:

  • Unsweetened Cheerios

  • Regular milk

  • Orange juice

  • White toast with a bit of sugar

This was much more appealing than the "orange drink," and I didn’t feel awful afterward like I had in previous pregnancies.

Advocate for Your Choices

So, ladies, take note—be your own advocate! Ask your doctor or midwife about alternatives for the glucose test. You might be surprised by the options they offer, and you’ll feel better knowing you made the best choice for you and your growing baby.
