Spring Break Escape: A Family Vacation (and a Break for My Pelvic Floor!)

Written by a pelvic floor physical therapist at Empower Your Pelvis, in Kansas City, Missouri (Lee Summit, MO and Overland Park, KS)

Spring break 2021 brought our family of five a much-needed getaway – not just for fun but also as a break for my pelvic floor! After months of busy clinic life, I realized my pelvic floor was under more stress than I thought. It turned out that even "positive stress" from exciting changes can impact how our bodies respond, and my pelvic floor was feeling it. Fewer bowel movements? Check. Tension? Check. All signals pointing to one thing: I needed a break.

As pelvic floor therapists, we tell our patients that the pelvic floor holds emotion – both positive and negative. And after a year of big changes, including moving to a new clinic space, hiring a new PT, and surviving the challenges of 2020, my own pelvic floor was feeling the effects of constant hustle.

So, we packed our bags and headed to Kissimmee, Florida, staying in an amazing home at a resort just 6 miles from Disney. Our house was fantastic, complete with themed rooms for the boys, a private pool, and access to a huge resort waterpark. We felt truly spoiled!

This spring break wasn't just a vacation; it was a reminder of how essential it is to give our bodies the rest they deserve – even the parts we don't often think about.
